Outstanding Exhibition or Collection Catalogue Award
This award will be given to an outstanding exhibition or collection catalogue during the current calendar year. A call for nominations letter is distributed on November 1 to all of the museums and galleries across the Midwest. Nominating institutions must be current MAHS members. Catalogues are sent directly to the reviewing committee members by February 1.
Emerging Scholar Distinguished Presentation Award
The Emerging Scholar Distinguished Presentation Award is granted to an outstanding paper presented at the MAHS annual conference by an art historian who received their MA or PhD within the last five years, and is no longer a student at the time of the conference. After hearing the presentations at the annual meeting, session chairs may nominate one emerging scholar from each session. The deadline is May 1. The awards committee reads the submissions and selects a candidate. The candidate will be notified of the award. The award will consist of a letter of recognition, membership in MAHS for three years, and announcements in the MAHS newsletter and website.
Graduate Student Distinguished Presentation Award
The Graduate Student Distinguished Presentation Award is granted to an outstanding paper presented by a graduate student at the MAHS annual conference. Session chairs will note which presenters on their panels are graduate students. The deadline is May 1. The awards committee reads the submissions and selects a winner. The MAHS Board of Directors will present a prize to the recipient (one year membership in MAHS and five titles from Oxford University Press). An announcement will be made in the MAHS newsletter and on the website.
Charles Cuttler Award for Contributions to the History of Art
This annual award is named in honor of Art Historian and Midwest Art History Society founder, Charles Cuttler. It honors art historians, curators, museum directors, patrons, or others who have made significant contributions to the history of art that has special significance to the Midwest and is associated with the annual conference site. The award, in the amount of $1000, will be donated to the Midwestern visual arts organization of the recipient’s choice. This donation is intended to further the appreciation and understanding of the history of art through the selected organization. The award will be presented at the annual conference. Winners will be listed online and in the newsletter. In addition, a press release will be provided to national and international art media in an effort to promote the winner, the award, and MAHS.
The President’s Award
This special award will be given to an individual or individuals to recognize exemplary efforts, leadership and service in furthering the mission of the Midwest Art History Society.
