Awards Committee
An award for a Distinguished Presentation by a graduate student is conferred at our annual meeting. Session chairs, after hearing the presentations, are to select a maximum of one graduate student (if none seem distinguished than no nomination need be made). The student is notified, and if he/she wants to submit, the written paper is sent to the awards committee and the appropriate session chair within 2 weeks of the conference. The awards committee reads the submissions, and after conferring with the appropriate session chairs, selects a candidate. An announcement appears in the spring newsletter and a book is given to the awardee.
Communications & Membership Committee
This committee includes, among others, the Newsletter Editor, the Assistant Editor, the website overseer, the treasurer for the membership list and listserv. Committee is responsible for organs of communication within society as well as the maintenance and building of membership.
Conference Committee
Comprised of the chairs or co-chairs of the last two annual meetings, this committee serves in an advisory capacity to the chairs of the upcoming annual conferences.
Career Advice/Intern Committee
Given the emphasis in the Midwest Art History Society on the participation of graduate students in the region, this committee works to offer career advice to participating graduate students. The committee also serves as source of information on internships for students at participating museums or universities, as well as other advice on careers in art history.
Nominating Committee
This committee solicits and presents names to the board for new board members as well as nominations for officers and key positions on the board of the organization.
Publications Committee
This committee oversees the publications undertaken by the society, including fund-raising. Currently in preparation are a volume of 16th-century drawings in Midwest Collections as well as the catalogue for an upcoming exhibition on 17th-century drawings.
Site Coordinator for Annual Conference
This has been a one-person committee, someone who lines up the sites for the upcoming annual meetings.
University/Museum Relations Committee
This committee is responsible for making sure the Recent Acquisitions in Midwestern Collections session happens at each annual meeting. Also, the committee works on building the participation of museum art historians in the society, how museum resources can be best utilized at annual meetings, how the society can address museum issues in the annual meetings, and how museums can be utilized in the college and university curriculum.
