New Acquisitions in Midwestern Museums
This session will provide a forum for presenting significant new acquisitions made by museums and galleries in the preceding year–whether gift or purchase, a single object or a group of related objects. Especially welcomed will be submissions which discuss the strategies and logistics of, and criteria for, expanding existing collections in new directions.

Submission deadline is August 15, 2009.

Call for Panel Discussion Participants
Contemporary Outdoor Sculpture: Conquering New Venues and Welcoming New Audiences

Sculpture has long been a part of both the urban fabric and traditional museum culture, yet recent installations have successfully transformed notions of public statuary and the role of sculpture within museum culture. This session is dedicated to an investigation of the placement of contemporary sculpture in outdoor venues that are innovative in context and provocative for new audiences. Placements may be within the parameters of an urban center or a museum, or perhaps a new venue previously untapped for the installation of contemporary sculpture. Each of three panelists will present on recent and unique installations that have successfully introduced contemporary work to broad and diverse audiences. Considering Chicago conference site and the session sponsorship by the Midwest Art History Society, emphasis will be placed on Midwestern venues.
